PCR DNA or RNA
      #59234 - 02/20/03 09:56 AM

Quantitative PCR RNA is the viral load test for HIV-1 only, right ?
For Qualitative PCR DNA for HIV-1 and HIV-2, the report format would be 'detectable' or 'not detectable', right ?..or/and would 'strain' of the hiv founded would be reported ?
To rule out HIV infection apart from the conclusive ELISA, which one DNA or RNA should be done first ?
Tks

Neither if you already have a conclusive ELISA. It's just a waste of money to find out what you already know.

But if you're hell bent on getting one, get the DNA. RNA is for viral load. Which may or may not be detectable. DNA looks for just that. It will always be detectable if HIV is present.
