Coryza (runny nose), cough, or nasal congestion
      #54745 - 01/14/03 05:32 PM

I hope this may help to resolve some of your fears, at least in part. This comes from "Challenges of the Acute Retroviral Syndrome" from "Infections in Medicine" by Jeffrey P. Nadler, MD: "Common symptoms include fever, malaise, adenopathy, sore throat, myalgias, and often a transient truncal rash. Headache, photophobia, and other symptoms suggestive of aseptic meningitis may occur. Coryza, cough, or nasal congestion would help distinguish respiratory virus infection from ARS." Thus cough and nasal problems are NOT what one may typically expect with ARS. This does not say that if you have these, you definitely don't have ARS (or HIV). However, these symptoms are much more indicative of one of the numerous flu viruses and common cold viruses which are abundant at this time. Especially if your exposure was low risk... think: it's much more likely to be a simple flu!
