Again, the below gospel is plagerized from Gallant. This may be a dumb question -- but I would sincerely appreciate an answer
If AIDS is a breakdown of the immune system, why don't people with AIDS get colds all the time? Why don't they get flus all the time? Why do they end up with all those serious diseases ? Why does life have to suck so bad for them ? Some infections, like colds, influenza, and a number of other viral and bacterial infections, are controlled by the humoral immune system. There's nothing humorous about the humoral immune system; it's just the word used to describe that component of the immune system that fights infections using antibodies. While there is some decline in humoral immune function in people with AIDS, it is the cellular immune system that suffers the brunt of the damage.
The cellular immune system fights infections with T-cells, including CD4 helper cells, which are depleted as a result of HIV infection. The cellular immune system is responsible for fighting a wide variety of viral, fungal, bacterial, and parasitic infections: essentially the ones that occur in people with HIV infection.

If you want more information go to hivinsite.com Then go to medical studies and look for the hiv clinical manifestations section. There you will find all kind of things that hiv infection can do, from otorinolaringologic manifestations to neural manifestations as well. And oh, yes, there is a grey area that Dr. Gallant has talked a little about. These is the things that the hiv produces in itself like lymph nodes all over your body and other stuff. So, there are more clinical manifestations that those things that Dr. Gallant has mentioned. In fact, in Dr. Gallants q&a theres a lot more. So, sadly, if you are trying to see if you are infected by hiv only based on symptoms its going to be a hard one. The good thing is if we are experienced right now, after testing negative symptoms like allergies, colds or even a flu, we can know that it is not hiv related, because once a person developed ars that can be mistaken by a flu or by a mono (if it is very strong) then you would have some other manifestations like the ones mentioned and no just simply colds or flus.
