hello,
i took my first hiv test ever this past 12/9/02. it was 6 months after unprotected sex. i am female and had sex with a guy, we didnot use protection but he didnot cum inside of me - he pulled out.
yes, i know that was a risky and a stupid thing to do so, please no lectures - i am already beating myself up and scared out of my witts!
i know with all the holidays and weekends things take longer than usual and i was wondering, since it has been almost 4 weeks and i havent heard from the doctor - that this is a could be a good sign in the sense that i was told if anything was wrong, they would call me.
i am going to call the doctors office on monday when he reopens the office so i can speak with him and get the results on my hiv test, but, my question is ..... does it usually take so long for results to come back? i hope he has then after all this time!!!
i heard it usually takes 10 days for results to come back. i am going to call but if i were positve, wouldn't i have gotten a call from the office already?
are doctors obligated to call you if the test result is positive?
i know with pap smear tests, if there is something wrong, i get a call from the doctor but i call anyway just to hear the results, incase my tests gets over looked.
i know my waiting is stupid but i am scared. i have never not used protection and have never had sex with someone i didnt know - its a long story and it doesnt change the fact that i was stupid and didnt use a condom, so i wont go into it.
any thoughts? i will post my results when the doctor returns on monday and if he has them - he should, its been a long enough time!
thanks for you support.

Yes it's a good sign.
When I tested positive the doctor's office called and wanted me in there immediately so they could talk to me about my test. Wouldn't give me the results over the phone. Didn't even matter that I was scheduled for an appt for a phsyical 4 days later. So I went in the morning of New's Years Eve to hear my results.
So you see, even if it is the holidays, if you had tested positive you would have heard. No news is good news.

If you havent heard anything that probably is good news but DR's offices should tell you either way. Dr's offices are usually very busy so somebody just forgot to call you but call them just to make sure. Pap tests do not detect HIV.
