From what I've heard, lymph nodes swollen due to ARS tend to last at most a couple of weeks. But the reason you may have been getting conflicting answers is because there is some data to show that SOME people infected with HIV may have persistantly swollen nodes for the duration of their infection. Don't take this to mean that ARS symptoms can be persistant, because they are not. But lymph nodes can stay swollen while the rest of the symptoms disappear. Swollen lymph nodes ALONE aren't considered common indicators of ARS. Thus the statement that ARS lasts only a couple of weeks.

I think that swollen lymph nodes would occur after your body starts to develope antibodies. swelling could be caused by the production of lymphocytes getting ready for battle.. What is your take on this?

My lymph nodes started to swell after 8 months from infection. My 81/2 month test which I did get the result yesterday was undetermined. My Doctor wants to wait another month before I do another test. I am freeking out. I think that previous statement is correct. Lymph nodes will swell sometimes after the body produces antibodies and sometimes they swell during ARS and could stay like that for over few weeks or months.
Wish me luck for my 9 1/2f months test.

good luck
zazoo

I wish you all the best zazoo. yet i find it exceedingly difficult to believe that you would test negative out to 8 1/2 months then test indeterminate. if you are truly indeterminate, then i am sure it is a lab error.

My last negatve test was at 7 months. I did recently repeat the test due to the enlarged lymph nodes(4) in the neck and the pain in armpit and groin. One of the lymph nodes is very large. I am hoping it is something else and not HIV.. However, I find it hard to function. My exposure was very very low risk.

Man, are you crazy or what. LISTEN: ELISA test are only positive or negative. Western Blots can be negative, indeterminate or positive. BUT, if an ELISA is NEGATIVE then a WESTERN BLOT is not required, ask any doctor you want. So why the hell if you are having negative elisa test at even 7 months you are having western blots? MAN GET A LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

if you tested negative at 7 mos, i firmly believe that your lymph nodes are swollen because of something else. People need to remember that swollen lymphnodes are an extremely common symptom to many different illnesses that are far easier to contract than HIV.

Thank you Jedi Master! I hope this guy/gal is not spreading false information. This board is for truthful, helpful information and is designed to educate people about HIV. Again, thank you for saying something. Do you think this person (zazoo) is bending the truth in his/her posts?

Hes been around for a while. First asking how accurate a test past 3 months, then past 4 months, THEN PAST 6 MONTHS, AND THEN PAST 8 MONTHS. Like DUDE had tell him also, he is sick, but not hiv but another problem. I think he is MENTALLY SICK and that it seems like he really wants to be hiv positive! He is so paranoid, but I mean, its good to be paronoid, must of us has been or still are but man, to be paronoid with all these negative test thats AN INSULT to the medical science.

Lymph Nodes are like filters. They will only swell in the presence of an infection. Therefore, the if all the nodes in the body are swollen then a virus must be traveling around through out the blood stream.

Re: I AM NOT PARANOID - ZAZOO YOU ARE CRAZY! new
      #5112 - 06/08/00 04:41 AM

I know how hard it is to be anxious about the symptoms that occur after exposure. I am not making this up
at all or in any way I would envisage myself attempting such a thing where I will expose you people to more
anxiety especially about the window period without concrete and ligitimate concerns which I have about my health status. I am not sick in the head as most of you said. I am sick and I will be going to see an immunologist
late June. Till then I will not be posting any messages in regards to my symptoms. Just as a correction
to someone mentioning ELISA and Western Blot. I did not have positive western blot at all. Only Elisa was
positive which made the test classified as undeterment. No I do not wish to have HIV not now not in the future, that was a very stupied remark and only exposed your naivity. I do not think that counselling will be of any help if the lymph nodes are swollen and thrush is abundant on the tongue(candida glossitis).

Anyhow, I am not making these symptoms up at all. Otherwise I would have had a different story.

I am sure there are many other people who are terrified about seroconverting after 6 months eventough statistics state that it is very unlikely. I am hoping that I am negative and wish that you are all too.

Wish all the best
zazoo

ZAZOO, if you had a positive ELISA, and a negative Western Blot, that is not an indeterminate result! That is a False Positive result, which is basically the same as a negative result! An indeterminate result is classified as when the ELISA test is positive, and there are SOME bands that show up positive on the Western Blot, but not ALL of them! If you're Western Blot was not positive at all like you say, then it is a negative test result!
