After reading the following article, I was wondering others opinion. In my view, people that are HIV+ and know they are HIV+ and continue to have unprotected sex with others, should be considered as attempted murderers. I mean they have a deadly disease and practice unsafe sex that could possibly infect their partners. I wonder how many of their partners knew they were HIV + and continued to have unprotected sex with them. Please be careful out there and always practice safe sex until you know for certain your partner is HIV-.

Though AIDS has declined among gay men who use intravenous drugs, the government said many of them continue to share needles and have unprotected sex -- behaviors that spread the disease.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday that 5 percent of men in that high-risk group had been diagnosed with AIDS in 1998, down from 8 percent in 1990. The decline is due in large part to increased use of antiretroviral therapies that delay disease progression, the CDC said.
A survey of 513 men in the high-risk group who were diagnosed with AIDS from 1996 to 1998 showed many are taking part in risky behavior that can spread the disease to other groups.
The survey showed that, in the past five years, 82 percent had used drugs, 34 percent had used intravenous drugs and 15 percent had shared needles. It also showed that 76 percent had sex with men and 43 percent had sex with women. Nearly half of those who were sexually active did not use condoms.
Studying men in this high risk group, the CDC said, was important because they have multiple risks for contracting and spreading the disease.
"Prevention measures that have an impact on that group could possibly prevent transmission to several different groups," spokeswoman Pascal Wortley said.
The survey indicated that 85 percent of the men in the high-risk group were 30 to 49 years old.
Forty-four percent of the AIDS cases among the high-risk men in the study were in Southern states and 26 percent in the West. Most of the participants in the study were from those regions.

I TOTALLY AGREE!!!! THAT IS EXACTLY THE SITUATION I AM IN! I AM NOT SURE IF I AM HIV+ BUT HAVE HAD ALL OF THE SYMPTOMS OF EARLY INFECTION, BUT I FOUND OUT THAT MY BOYFRIEND OF TWO YEARS HAS HIV, AND HAS KNOWN FOR A LONG TIME!!!!! WE PRACTICED SAFE SEX THE MAJORITY OF TIME, BUT ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS WE DIDN'T ( AT HIS REQUEST!!!! HE WOULD EVEN GET ANGRY EVERY TIME I WANTED TO USE A CONDOM!!! ) I FOUND OUT HE WAS HIV+ BECAUSE HE WAS SICK ALL OF THE TIME AND I STARTED QUESTIONING HIM. HE WAS SO ANGRY WITH ME SAYING THINGS LIKE HOW DARE YOU ACCUSE ME OF HAVING SOMETHING LIKE THAT !!!! WE GOT INTO REALLY HEATED ARGUEMENTS!!!! HE AND HIS FAMILY ACCOUNTED ALL OF HIS FATIGUE AND JOINT PAIN TO BEING AN INHERITED JOINT DISEASE!!!! ( HIS MOTHER, FATHER, GRANDMOTHER, ALL OF THEM!! ) FINALLY I WENT THROUGH SOME OF HIS THING HE LEFT AT MY HOUSE, AND FOUND ALL OF THE EVIDENCE I NEEDED. MEDICINE, DOCTOR REFERRALS, ETC. I CONFRONTED HIM ONCE AGAIN, AND HE FLAT OUT DENIED IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I HAD TO THREATEN HIM WITH CALLING THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT BEFORE HE FINALLY CONFESSED!!!!!!!
OF COURSE I WAS AND STILL AM DEVISTATED. I ASKED HIM WHY WOULD HE DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND HIS RESPONSE WAS " I NEEDED TO HAVE SOMEONE ON MY SIDE!!!!" HE DELIBERATELY DID THIS TO ME!!!! I HAVE CALLED THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT AND REPORTED HIS NAME, BUT WAS TOLD IN MY STATE THEIR ARE NO LAWS PROTECTING PEOPLE AGAINST THIS, AND THERE IS NOTHING I CAN REALLY DO!!!! I AM SCARED OUT OF MY MIND, I AM A SINGLE MOM AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN EXTRA CAREFUL. THIS WAS A PERSON WITH WHOM I HAD EVEN CONSIDERED MARRIAGE!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!!!!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING TO ME. HIS LAST WORDS TO ME WERE, " YOU CAN LIVE WITH THIS IF YOU HAVE IT. I DID! "

How long had your boyfriend been positive once you discovered his status. And what kind of joint pain was he experiencing was it severe?

I AM NOT REALLY SURE. HE HAD KNOWN FOR OVER A YEAR WHEN I FOUND OUT. HE SAID HIS KNEES AND ELBOWS AND BACK HURT PRETTY BAD. THATS ALL I CAN REALLY SAY. HE DID NOT REALLY TELL ME THAT MUCH. HE WOULD ALWAYS GO TO HIS MOTHERS HOUSE WHEN HE DIDN'T FEEL WELL.

I agree that it is immoral to infect someone else with a deadly disease. But by the same token, if we as a society are going to expect people to consider others, then we should also consider them. Which means making sure that the sick have access to quality affordable health care, housing, and food. Society is a two way street--it can't be all obligations on the individual's part without any corresponding reciprocity from the state.
Or so I think.
I have always been a liberal; this nightmare has made me moreso.
