Paranoid... Could someone help!!!
      #4863 - 06/04/00 11:01 AM

About 8 months ago I dated a guy who I later found out uses injection drugs (steroids) and to my dismay I also found out that he has had many sexual partners. Since that time I have also met someone "my soulmate" so naturally I was concerned about the others guys HIV status. I asked him if he had been tested an he became rather upset and stated that he felt fine. I did one of those Home Access test (again at 8 months) so I am clear of the 6 month window. My results came back negative however I still can't shake this fear of HIV. I was wondering if anyone has any information about the accuracy of the Lab testing site that Home Access uses. I mean I know the test itself it supposed to be as good as the one the doctors use I guess I am just being paranoid thinking they may have not done the test correctly or got my results mixed up with someone elses. Has anyone used the Home Access test? And what are your feelings about the accuracy? I know this sounds crazy and I think I have OCD because I am obessesd with this. HIV consumes my every thought... Please Help.....

HOMEACCESS FDA APPROVIED ELISA TEST new
      #4865 - 06/04/00 01:11 PM

You are HIV negative. If you used the HOMEACCESS (FDA approved) HIV anti-body test, and it was >6 months past your last test, you are HIV negative. The test is FDA approved, which is the government's way of saying it's safe and very reliable. It is the same test used by labs testing for HIV. The diffierence is you get the result via the phone and this could be harmful if you tested positive. There is a fear some people would hurt themself with a positive result over the phone without one-on-one counseling. Your fear is understandable. However, you can be re-assured by the accuracy of the HOMEACCESS test kit. I believe it is the only one the FDA actually approved.
I think they pulled a couple off the shelves.
Best wishes

Thanks for the words of re-assurance. I guess this HIV scare is just really hard to shake sometimes... Again thank you. And, yes it was the HOMEACCESS test that I used and I got my results in like 3 days. Guess I am just a little over paranoid!!

This sounds a lot like me new
      #4873 - 06/04/00 08:33 PM

About 3 months ago i gave oral sex to 3 guys i met at a strip club. don't know what the heck i was thinking, except i was blitzed out of my mind. my "boyfriend" at the time also said it turned him on, but it's not his body or his life or his morality. now i tested negative on an elisa test after 3 months, and i also tested negative on a DNA test after one month. my doctor says there' s big chance i am negative. some people say it's definitive that i am negative. but i keep thinking about why i did that and how stupid i had to be to do it, and how i jeopardized everything by it. i have moments when i just stare off into space and then i cry. my work has gone to hell. i don't know if even a 6 month test will help me, but i think it will.

i'm in sucha transition period in my life right now; i'm going to be moving to alabama of all places because i am a consultatn and they have me doing some research for a year. the move is the end of july and my 6 months won't even be up until the middle of august, and that's a state that doesn't even have anonymous testing.

iahe no idea how good a 3 months test is some people say 95 some say 98 and some say 99.9999 i have no idea. it sounds reasonable to me that it's probably closer to 95 otherwise why wouldn't the united states have endorsed 3 months testing only?

i have all this guilt and anxiety inside me. i never did anything this stupid, even when i was in a sororiety all thru college. i am a wreck.

how do some people go through this and keep their sanity?

YOU'RE NEGATIVE new
      #4887 - 06/04/00 10:46 PM

Hi
Oral sex is lower risk than Intercourse. Secondly, you don't have any idea about the HIV status of these men. Thirdly, your 3 month test is very very encourage. Rely on the six month test.; But, right now you should relax. Any HIV specialist would tell you, your'e not going to test poz at 6 months from the description of your risk and the fact you tested negative at 3 months.
Best wishes is Neckville.
