A couple things
      #4803 - 06/02/00 11:11 PM

A couple things:

(1) Is it Mark who's posting about the weakened immune system being a reason people need more than 3 months to convert? Where are you getting that? I have only heard that on this board, too.

(2) I talked to Dr. Wolinsky at Northwestern. He's the person who did the 1995 needlestick studies and said that 49/51 people converted in 3 months, but 2 needed longer than that. He didn't go into details, but he said that a negative test at 3 months is almost certainly conclusive. He said you should go back and retest at 6 months, but there's no reason to worry past 3 months. If you are negative at 3 months, he said you "dodged a bullet."

I wish I'd asked him for more specifics about his study, etc., but he has definitely done lots of research in this area, and he seemed like an OK guy.

I feel better ndb etter that a 3 month test is very accurate. I told myself once I got to 3 months, I'd feel fine. Now I have to start acting that way. I got a bar exam to study for.

Boy, have you got good resources. I cant believe you have access directly from the source. Imagine how relieve we are with the own man that did the test RIZZO is talking about, telling that there is no reason to worry past 3 months and that people who tested negative past 3 months just dogded the bullet, that I imagine, is hiv, thats hes talking about. So the own source tell us not to worry past 3 months and that we dodge the bullet!, right? This is great news.

The thing is, he DID say to go back at six months. But he said that if you are negative on an Elisa test at 3 months, then that is good.

I am surprised he called back, too. I called him around 4:30 this afternoon and he called me before 5 p.m.

I partly keep going with teh 6 month test because I don't want to jinx myself. If I think I am OK, then, I think, I won't be.

Man, but i think he say it so to get peace of mind, huh? Have you talk to a doctor or some specialist that actually think 3 months is enough? What does the GMHC has to say about the 3 months vs 6 months stuff?
