How do Autoimmune illnesses effect the elisa
      #46706 - 12/05/02 12:48 AM

Just wondering if any one can give me feed back on how an autoimmune disease could effect the results of an elisa test? Would appreciate some insight. Thanks

Everything ive read say's that it could give false positive's ,because autoimmune illness is a over production of antibodies.

Autoimmune diseases result in an overproduction of antibodies and therefor could result in a false positive reading. There are several posts on the Understanding Your Labs forum and also a few in the Fatigue/Anemia forum on the body. I have an autoimmune illness which was discovered after a high risk encounter and I became ill. After a year worth of HIV tests he told me to move on and "get over it". I did the RNA/DNA tests for safety sakes. Anyway I did 7 elisas and all were negative so I could assume the rate of false + is even very low.
