CDC's guidelines again,I promise this is the truth
      #4562 - 05/30/00 11:04 PM

Good Day,
Here's what the nation's leading authority on HIV testing has to say about the HIV anti-body test and the time it takes to detect infection.
Oh, and let us not bastardize this information to sooth our worries.
The CDC (Center for Disease Control) says:
The tests commonly used to detect HIV infection actually look for antibodies produced by your
body to fight HIV. Most people will develop detectable antibodies within 3 months after
infection, the average being 25 days. In rare cases, it can take up to 6 months. For this reason,
the CDC currently recommends testing 6 months after the last possible exposure (unprotected
vaginal, anal, or oral sex or sharing needles). It would be extremely rare to take longer than 6
months to develop detectable antibodies. It is important, during the 6 months between exposure
and the test, to protect yourself and others from further possible exposures to HIV.

The CDC National AIDS Hotline can provide more information and referrals to testing sites in
your area. The Hotline numbers are 1-800-342-2437 (English), 1-800-344-7432 (Spanish), or
1-800-243-7889 (TTY).

Three days ago people were telling me they loved what I was saying.
Now someone's calling me satan.
. . . but I'll find a way to keep the truth up front for the new people.

Your dedication is admirable...but don't promote the CDC as the supreme arbiter of the truth!! The truth is that the CDC is in the overwhelming minority of expert doctors and institutions. Almost every other reputable institution in the US and around the world reports that the 3 month test is conclusive. THAT'S THE TRUTH DUDE!

Indeed, why do we have to think that the CDC is the only one with the whole truth and then the other ones are a bunch of irresponsables and liars????

Im gonna post this message that an anonimous user posted today:

Hey Buddy! Relax! That's not what I meant at all! What I meant was that I think the Canadians don't have to worry about being sued, so they can implement new policies on the window period more quickly than the CDC. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I've been told by hotlines over here that the Canadian hotlines were advocating 6 month tests when the CDC was still saying 1 year. Eventually the CDC changed its tune. Now the hotlines over here are advocating 12 week testing, and they expect the CDC will change it's window to 12 weeks soon too!

I realize now that my last post might have given you the wrong idea. Sorry about that. That's not the way I meant it. Think of it this way. It would definitely not be in the best interest of the hotlines here to advocate a 12 week window period if they didn't really believe in it! I don't even have to get into that!
