Could Lymphogranuloma venereum(LGV) create a false negative Elisa and Determine(Abbott) test.

As was answered below...why people post the same thing over and over escapes me. Especially when their orginal question is still on the first page.

No it won't affect the test one way or another. It will affect the tests done for autoimmune diseases. HIV is NOT an autoimmune disease. If you had bothered to do a little research on your own before posting the first time you would have found all that out. You also could have asked your doctor or the place you tested. All you did was see the word autoimmune and freak out without even trying to find out what it meant. You know what they say about ASSuming. If that test was done at 3 months and after then you don't have HIV.

For your information an Elisa test is an Ana
(Antinuclear antibody panel) AND Lmv CAN EFFECT the results of the Elisa test.Stop pretending you have so much Knowledge and do some research you JERK.

An ANA is used for autoimmune and rheumatic diseases. HIV is neither of those. It is caused by a retrovirus. HIV is not an autoimmune disease. An autoimmune disease is one where the body itself attacks the body. In HIV it is an outside influence that attacks the body.

Antinuclear antibody test
Author/s: Nancy J. Nordenson

Definition
The antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is a test done early in the evaluation of a person for autoimmune or rheumatic disease, particularly systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Purpose
In autoimmune diseases, the body makes antibodies that work against its own cells or tissues. Rheumatic diseases (diseases that affect connective tissue, including the joints, bone, and muscle) are also associated with these antibodies. Autoantibodies are proteins built by the body, but instead of guarding against foreign material (including bacteria, viruses, and fungi) as normal antibodies do, they attack the body's own cells.

Autoimmune and rheumatic diseases can be difficult to diagnose. People with the same disease can have very different symptoms. A helpful strategy in the diagnosis of these diseases is to find and identify an autoantibody in the person's blood.

The antinuclear antibody test looks for a group of autoantibodies that attack substances found in the center (nucleus) of all cells. It is useful as a screen for many autoantibodies associated with diseases that affect the entire body (systemic diseases).

This test is particularly useful when diagnosing a person with symptoms of SLE, an illness that affects many body organs and tissues. If the test is negative, it is unlikely that the person has SLE; if the test is positive, more tests are done to confirm whether the person has SLE or another related disease. Other diseases, such as scleroderma, Sjögren's syndrome, Raynaud's disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune hepatitis, often have a positive test for antinuclear antibodies.

One more for Jackie new

Also Jackie what are your views on Lmv affecting the result of the Elisa test. I've had quite a few symptoms since an encounter Macopapular rash, hairy tongue, yeast infection, Gingivitis, Fevers. I've tested at 12 weeks with the elisa. It was negative..?At the same time I was diagnosed with LMV which I must have had for quite a while but I was unaware what it could be.Love some feed back. Thanks Jackie

This is my understanding. ANA are detected using the ELISA method. I am ANA positive (about a year 1/2 ago) and tested HIV negative up until 12 months. I also took the HIV-RNA/DNA in order to rule out any possibiilty of a false negative elisa on HIV. Bottom Line, as I have found out from many drs. positive ANA means the body is producing detectable antibodies. This would more than likely cause a false positive on the HIV Elisa test than a false negative.

I asked this ? to the Fatigue Anemia Dr. on the body site (see Please Help Me Understand) in the Fatigue/Anemia Am I Infected Link.

Hope this helps you. I know I have been nervous this past year regarding the ANA+ diagnosis.
