Hi,
I was recently (2 weeks ago) the insertive partner in anal sex with an hiv+ individual. Anal sex with this man lasted about 1 minute tops. As I pulled out the condom, I realized that there was a hole near the tip of my condom (about 1.0 cm diameter) Not sure that it was right at my urethra during intercourse but unlikely...the hole probably lined up with the head of my penis. No scratches or bruises were on my penis.
I just tested for STD's and all returned negative.
I would like to know what kind of risk I am in as the insertive partner. I am flooded with so many opnions and facts about HIV that I am so confused what to believe.
And worse, I am so scared and alarmed that I am unable to go a day without this incident lurking in my head.
Some kind soul out there please share some feedback on my incident.
Thank
Jax

Being the insertive partner puts you in a lower risk category than being hte receptor. For Hiv to get to you the other person would have to have bled and the blood would have to get into youre urethra.

Thanks. Do my circumstances still put me in a high risk category or has using a condom (albeit w/hole) considerably reduce my risk?
Concerned

With risk being a continuim of sorts, there is no definite break between high risk and not so high risk. If you were to ask me, I would probably classify you in the lower end of the high risk spectrum. In other words, having a condom on definitely lowered your risk. And being the insertive partner is lower risk than being the receptive partner. But the fact remains that you experienced comdom failure, so your risk is probably significant enough to get tested for. So get it done when the time is right. Keep in mind that HIV is still a hard disease to get, and if this was your only exposure, you have a greater chance of turning our negative than positive. Good luck.

I really appreciate the last comment on my query here. Thanks whoever you are. Now I need to go figure out when and what type (ELISA or PCR) test to take....I need to appease my head by taking a test before the 3 months period is up.
