To answer a previous question by Jackie Blue as to why there isn't a 2nd Generation EIA: There actually is, it used Synthetic Peptides to detect antibodies. However due to it's inconsistency it has been shelved a long time ago. The use of the 1st Generation (Viral Lyzate) test is widely used by major clinics in the USA because it is inexpensive and viral lyzates can accurately detect hiv I antibodies if they are present. Ofcourse the window period with this test is a bit longer than the third generation but not longer than about 3 months

so the only difference between 1st Generation and 3rd generation is "window period". What about in regards to different strains of the HIV Virus. Would 1st and 3rd generations be the same in this regard as well

1st Generation EIA's have been fine tuned to pick up rare strains, however they only tend to pick up 70% of HIV II infections. Besides the window period that is the other drawback

"detect hiv I antibodies if they are present."
Has it ever occured to you that anti bodies are the bodies natural protection against infection.
Antibodies indicate you are healthy.

Antibodies are specific to each invader the body encounters. Thats why their the perfect marker of HIV infection. For example: if the antibody specific to dissidents was present, we could tell they'd been here. They leave their horrible advice and lies as their antibodies.
