Risk Of Infection?
      #42766 - 10/31/02 11:28 AM

Greetings Everyone!

I've basically stumbled across this website because I've been on the Net all day after getting a little 'panic attack' this morning, and was wondering if anyone out there could give me some advice...

To cut a long story short, I had unprotected sex about five months ago with a girl I had never met before (and haven't spoken to since). And I'm terrified that I might have been infected with HIV and was wondering if it's likely or not from this encounter. It was the first time I had ever had sex, it lasted about thirty seconds, I did not ejaculate because I decided moments after starting that it was not what I wanted to be doing, and I'm circumcised (I've heard it can alter your risk of infection). I don't think that I had any early HIV symptoms (none that I can think of, anyway), but I guess you can't rule things out on this basis.

I'm absolutely petrified because my career's finally taking off and I've started going out with (no sex!) a girl I'm crazy about!

Is it wise to take an HIV test at the moment?

Please respond....

A one time 30 second encounter isn't a very high risk. It wouldn't hurt to get tested but be prepared for it being negative.

Well you probably have nothing to worry about at all, first the facts, chances she has aids is low, the risk of getting via sex, with the ejaculation is low, so get the test, It will be negative and you can move ahead with your life.

From your story I assume that you did not use a condom: otherwise your chances to be HIV+ were absolutely zero.
You should not worry about it, anyway: you do not know the HIV status of your partner (could not she be negative?) and your story really suggests a very low risk (for she was positive), even if "theoretically" you might have been exposed.
You should be ready to go and get tested, believe the result and go on with your life, learning that when you want to have sex you MUST use condoms - properly - to avoid further months of panic
