Minimal posibility of infection ?
      #41354 - 10/07/02 12:06 PM

I am pregnant, and my doctor asked me to get some tests ( included HIV ). I lived with a positive boy in the past, and after my last risky encounter I have been testing for two years ( negative ). Today the doctor has phoned me because he needs some more time to repeat the HIV test. Anyone knows about a delayed seroconversion lasting more than 2 years ? Can I rule out the minimal posibility of infection in 2 years´time ?

What does being pregnant have to do with hiv. If your doctor told you to jump off a roof for your baby would you? Grab a brain girl!

Try not to worry. No, there is no delay beyond 2 years. In fact, delays after 13 weeks from exposure are unusual. Write us back and let us know how you are doing. Its not unusual for a doctor to order tests. He or she is doing his/her job. Everyone should be tested and we need to look after baby also. Good luck.

I am trying not to worry, but I don´t know when my results will come back, so.... I know that it should be very unusual to get a positive result after two years of ongoing negatives, but I am nervous because of my baby. Having a hard time

Relax - seroconversion after two years just does not happen with the current ELISA tests. Best wishes, Extremely
