      #40334 - 09/18/02 09:52 PM

I know this is an hiv forum but I was wondering if the first episode of genital herpes is extremly painful or not? What do the lesions look like and how long do they take to go away? Please answer!

i got genital herpes in april - unprotected sex, thatst also how i ended up on this board ..... first outbreaks (ob) willl occur anttime from from 2-12-20 days after exposure to herpes - 1 or 2. down there - dont know if you are a man or woman - i am female, it took 1 day to start! first you get a burning sensation - like a yeast infection but nothing is there then there are throbbing pounding sensations, it can hurt when you pee, the skin gets red and swolllen and on top of the you wil see small - several- maybe even just 1 - tiny vessecles or pimple looking pimple that have a clear or white head to them. they will hurt like crazy if touched - do not touch to get the liquid out - thats the herpes virus and it is contagious. you may also itch and feel as if you have a bad sunburn down there. these pimples can be in 1 spoy or all over - even in the anus even if you didnt have anal sex. if you go to the dr, go asap! the dr will culture the pimples that is the best way to tell if you have herpes and get it typed to see if you have 1 or 2 - either can be down there. if you dont have pimples or didnt get to the dr you can get a blood test for herpes but you have to wait at least 12-16 weeks to build up antibodies. aldo, when you get herpes, you may feel as if you got the flu or just not right for a day or two. go to a message board called www.racoon.com
it is the orginal herpes home page and there are so many post and people answer right away www.racoon.com
the sores can last 3-7-10-20 days depending on your immune system. they do go away but you always have the virus and can pass it along. taking valtrex or another antiviral helps. go to www.racoon.com you will find what you are looking for.
