Quite scared - looking for advise
      #39695 - 09/10/02 01:21 AM

Hello everyone,
6 and 1/2 weeks ago I had a sexual encounter. Now, I have come down with serious sore muscles, runny nose, sore throat, and super tired. Does ARS happen 6 1/2 weeks? I am getting pretty darn scared.

Advise please???

Yes ARS can and does happen anywhere from 2-8 weeeks after depending on each person and severity ranges. Sore muscles are a definite sign of HIV infection. You need to get to a specialists now although 3 months is a definitive test so you need to tell the HIV specialist that you are HIV positive and start early therapy it is shown to have a better impact of helping oyu stay healthy longer. I would conclude that you are HIV positive from this encounter and help others from your experience. Sorry to hear about your encounter but you may still live for a few more years that is why it is important to start therapy ASAP and confront this now instead of waiting for months to come. You have all the symptoms of ARS and need to seek help now and dont have sex with anyone else dont spread your illness get therapy and try to live what few years you have left.

The only 'symptom' that might even be considered as a sign of ARS is your sore throat. Of course, your sore throat is probably caused by the fact you have a runny nose. The post nasal drip is probably irritating your throat. Sounds like you have a bit of a cold or allergies.

6.5 weeks is a little on the late side to be starting ARS. Most times ARS is between 2-4 weeks after an infection.

You probably aren't infected, but the ONLY way to know for sure is to test. Nothing can be told by symptoms.

PS: To 'Kev'. It's one thing to tell someone they are HIV when they have had test after test proving they don't and still want to believe they do. I understand. it's kinda like they seem to want to be infected. I also have been fascinated watching their reactions to your posts.

BUT

It's another thing to post such as you did when the person hasn't even tested or has tested but is still in the 3 month window. Here you have a person that while probably not infected, also doesn't know a lot about HIV and hasn't had the chance to learn, unlike those that don't believe their tests. Try giving the newbies good info. They might just learn, test and move on.

why can't we just support people here...god!! We are all afraid and look to each other for comfort...let's try to give them some okay...because just maybe some day you may need a compassionate ear to listen and no one will...

I think it's just a bug going around. Everyone I know at work has a cold now including myself. Try not drive yourself crazy over this. Wait 12 weeks and get tested. Best of luck and let us know how things turn out. :-)

Nobody knows or can tell you anything new

only antibody tests at 90 AND 180 days can tell if you are infected (or not) with HIV). Wait it out and test.

You said you had a sexual encounter. But was it unprotected? If you used a condom and it did not break then you'd have nothing to worry about from that particular time.
Just wondering. I wish you all the best!

Thanks everyone - I figure it is just a bug since others around me are sick too. I realized that whoever said I was positive was an idiot. I know enough, but didn't know it all. I thought it seemed on the late side. Plus, no fever - so I am guessing that is a good sign.

I'll get tested. If it is ARS, then I would show Positive right?
