I had a risky exposure about 6 1/2 years ago. It was a prostitute in Indonesia and the condom was no more by the time I finished. I was tested about 5 months later and it was negative. I've never given it a second thought until now. I'm married now and my wife is pregnant. Now I'm worried sick. I don't have sympoms such as fever or diahria (sp?), but have had a lot of headaches lately and sore necks since I started worrying. Like muscle sore, not lymph node sore ( I check those several times an hour too). I've also had some irratible bowel and occasional sore throat and excessive mucous in my throat after eating sometimes. I'm worried full-blown Aids is coming on. Plus I'm worried since my wife will probably be tested at her first prenatal visit in a couple weeks.
Someone on this forum said that at 5 months that you are 99.7% likely to be not infected. But that may be today. What about 6 years ago? 1993 to be exact. It was in the military so I don't know what kind of test it was. Basic ELISA I imagine. Any help appreciated.

I do not know the answer to your question. It's way to broad for me. Try the GMHC (Gay mens Health Crisis) homepage. THey spearheaded everything to do with HIV.

Essentially I'm asking if the tests done 6 years ago are the same or as accurate as the ones done today. I'm sure they aren't, so what does a 5 month negative then mean compared to today?
