I have seen many things on HTLV on this site. What is it, and where can I find out more info.

This one time I asked a doctor if he knew about HTLV, he said "yeah thats what they used to call HIV". (partially right) I was too disgusted to try and explain that no, there is another HTLV 1/2 that is different. Plus he was already walking out of the room and had that "are you challenging my knowledge" tone in his voice. Jackass.

You can find a fairly extensive writeup about HTLV I/II at http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic1038.htm. Basically the article says infection with HTLV I carries about a 1 to 4% lifetime chance of developing adult-onset leukemia and HTLV II has not been shown to be associated with any disease.
The topic of HTLV will occassionally come up in association with hiv because in the 1980's, hiv was sometimes thought to be a form of HTLV and was for a short time called HTLV III or LAV.
