To Ny_Gal or others about std
      #34591 - 05/20/02 07:22 PM

Dear NY_GAL
I took a gonnorea clymidia test at a Planned Parenthood in another state other than NY where you work. It was a urine test. The results negative I called to repeat the test and they said they wernt doing it antmore as it wasn't reliable.
EHIV TEST offers the same test for $200 Do you know if this test is reliable. Do they still use it in NY Planned Parenthood
I do not have symptoms but I am concearned I was exposed and they say not all cases are symptomatic
Thank You

About 80% if not higher will experience some sort of discomfort in their genital area and rather quickly. Usually people start to develop symptoms within 5-7 days after exposure. Symptoms may include: itching, burning, painful intercourse. I'm surprised that planned parenthood told you that the test was not reliable because it is and it is very easily diagnosed. Sometimes a doctor wont even need to run a test and will be able to tell just by examining you.

I am not familiar with Ehiv tests but my understanding is not it is not FDA approved. Spending $200 on a STD test is a little too high and I would not recommend doing that. Instead make an appointment with your doctor. Since you tested negative for Gonorrhea and Chlamydia it is safe to assume that you don't have it. If you are having a discharge that is causing you worry it may very well just be bacteria that can be easily treated.

Thank you so much NY_GAL
Im not showing symptoms, but heres why Im concearned
Had oral exposure only to my mouth with female subject A who I believe had an std either gonnorea or clymidia. Her symptoms were irregular bleeding, spotting. She said it was only cervicitis and not an std but they gave her Doxycycline and she got better.

Had oral and vaginal sex many times with subject B who later developed the same symptoms as subject A irregular bleeding and spotting.
Im afraid I gave 2nd partner std by giving oral, I assumed if I did I would have been infected genitally also as I also hed vaginal sex with her.
So as I said I tested urine test negative
Should I test again
Is it possible I only got exposed to the 1st person orally
gave it to the second person by giving oral sex, but never got it genitally.
After researching seems unlikely I would get it oral after 1 exposure and then not get it genitally after many.
Should I go and test throat. How and where could I do that
Thank you soooooo much

cervicitis can be caused by a number of different reasons. There are 2 kinds of cervicitis: chronic and acute. Chronic cervicitis is very common in women who recently gave birth or are currently taking oral contraceptives (birth control) and acute cervicitis is mainly caused by bacteria. Gonorrhea and chlamydia are commonly found in acute cervicitis but not always. There are many different types of bacteria that may also cause cervicitis especially if the bacteria is left untreated.

Since subject 'A' was able to identify her problem I suggest subject 'B' take a visit to her OB/GYN ASAP. Irregular bleeding between periods can be caused by a number of reasons e.g. vaginitis, PID, PCOS, yeast infection and much more. While contracting an STD is a lot easier than contracting HIV, catching gonorrhea and chlamydia via oral sex is highly unlikely.
