Rash question
      #33883 - 05/07/02 12:41 PM

What type of rash are talking about with HIV? I whole body rash where it is slighty redder than normal? I'm talking about legs, arms, truck, feet, hands, back, basically everywhere. Is this something that can be caused by HIV? Also, does it come and go or is it always present? Or is the ras usually localized? I feel like my entire skin is slightly rashy!!

i'm recycling an old post:

From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
Erythema Er`y*the"ma, n. NL., fr. Gr. ?, fr. ? to redden, fr. 'eryqro`s red. (Med.)
A disease of the skin, in which a diffused inflammation forms rose-colored patches of variable size.
Papula Pap"u*la, n.; pl. Papulae. L.
1. (Med.) A pimple; a small, usually conical, elevation of the cuticle, produced by congestion, accumulated secretion, or hypertrophy of tissue; a papule.
Macula Mac"u*la, n.; pl. Maculae. L., spot, stain, blot.
See Mail armor, and cf. Mackle, Macule.
1. A spot, as on the skin
An erythematous maculopapular rash is a rash that can be identified by red (erithema) spots (maculae) as in a sunburn or pimples (papulae) as in measles. In HIV primary infection it usually appears on the face, trunk and upper limbs. If it appears on the soles and palms it's more likely siphillis related and it is carachterised by brownish (rather than reddish) spots-pimples. If you have a diffuse and clearly visible rash, even transient, rush to your doctor, not to this website, rashes must always be evaluated. Hope this helps.
