T-CELL COUNT
      #32916 - 04/25/02 04:08 AM

Hiv negative but still worried.
I took a T-CELL count which came back as follows:

TOTAL LYMPH. 2630

CD3+ 2090 - 79.4%
CD4+ 1010 - 38.4%
CD5+ 72.8%
CD8+ 1157 - 44.0%

RATIO CD4+/CD8+ 0.87

What does this mean? Can these results be influenced by the fact I had Mono?

I know that the RATIO results are not so good
Pls help

A one time T-cell count does not mean much and should not be used as an indicator of health.

For the last 4 years I have gone in every 3 months and in addition to my viral load they do a T-cell count. I have seen my CD4 bounce from as low as 400 to as high as 900 in just 3 months, a lot of times this can be caused by having a cold, alergies, STRESS and lots of other things. In my case the doctor does not care about the specific number that we find, it's the trend that we are looking for. I also don't judge my health by the numbers. I know that I can go in once a week and every time I will get different numbers depending on what is going on with me.

You say your HIV negative which is Great. I'm not sure why you are doing T-cell counts and worying if your negative. You also didn't say what your doctors response to your numbers was. I hope they didn't just take the tests, charge you and not give you opinions.

Gregg

Both T-Cell numbers and the PCR test are poor methods to predict your well being. Try going to a holistic health practitioner they can tell you much more about whats going on with your health. Allopathic doctors are not very good a preventative medicine but wonderfull at treating emergency situations.
