I need some help. I read all the posts about subtype detection, and my question is does anyone know for certain that here in the US, will current Elisa tests detect all clades of HIV 1 infection? I have read that heterosexual transmission is type E more than B if so does our ELISA tests detect it and all other clades of HIV1? Excluding type O strain for it it really rather rare in US Thank you

The E subtype is just as rare as the O. It is mostly found in Asia. According to Unaids.com the Elisa will pick up all subtypes.

The E subtype is mostly found in Thailand and has been identified as early as 1989. I'm sure that the current tests pick up all subtypes. Testing is available in Thailand and detection of E subtype is picked up there. I don't see any reason why our tests wouldn't pick them up. The Elisa is used all over the world and since it detects E there it will detect it here also.
