Do ARS symptoms start suddenly and all at once? Would there be a two week predromal (sp?) period where you feel like you might be getting sick, then have the flu-like symptoms for a few days and then about 3 or 4 more weeks of feeling slightly sick? Or does this sound more like a mild case of mono?

to me this sound like a case of "if you had an actual exposure go and get tested". Speculating about your symptoms does no good. This could have easily been the flu. (Or, as you say, a mild case of mono, but even this should be established by your phisician). Get tested, it's still the best thing to do. Hope this helps, hugs

This may be a dumb question, but, can you get the flu as a result of a potiential exposure to HIV?

I appreciate your response and I will get tested. But is this typical for ARS? In all due respect, it's impossible not to speculate and these are just curiousities. I would really like to get an answer other than - go and get tested-

The flu is caused by haemophilus influentiae. you have to be exposed to influenza virus type a or b to get the flu.
Another thing are flulike symptoms, primary hiv infection is often (more than 90 percent of cases) indicated by moderate to severe flulike symptoms (fever, rash, generalized lymphadenopathy, pharyngitis, malaise, fatigue, etc) often symilar to the symptoms of infectuous EBV mononucleosis.
So you can't get the flu from hiv but you can experience a syndrome carachterized by similar symptoms.
Hope this helps.

Didn't mean to upset you. jackie once said tha ARS was like a big bad flu, it came all of a sudden, it stayed for a few days (more than a week, i can't remember) and then it went away. Maybe she can shed some light on this issue, not me. Hope this helps, and sorry for my previous answer.

Oh no...there's no reason to apologize. I'm sorry if I sounded upset, I wasn't. Thanks for your help.

For me it came on all at once. I was fine, then within a few hours I felt lousy.
