ELISA?
      #32368 - 04/19/02 02:10 PM

Can anyone help me? If one was to take an ELISA at 3 months for HIV1 infection is there a chance that there would be a strain or sub type of HIV 1 that it would NOT pick up or should I feel comfortable that it is not missing anything?
Thank you very much

It is a matter of prevalence, the only subtypes current elisas seem to miss are O and N. very rare in the U.S. or europe (i mean 1-2 cases, that rare). If you had contact with someone from southern europe (italy, spain) or africa i'd recommend HIV 1-2 testing. If else (sexual exposure to person of unknown status) the elisa you are going to take at 3 months is the golden standard.
Discuss this issue with a counselor or with someone at the testing site, they'll reassure you, your test is going to be accurate. Hope this helps. Hugs
