Co-Infection
      #32341 - 04/19/02 10:05 AM

Warning to all hypocondriacts:

Do not read this if you tend to be one of those people who doesn't believe the CDC or will not believe are HIV neg regardless of the facts and or repeated testing.

Here is one for all you late converters because of Co-infection with Hep C:

The CDC estimates that the rate for co-infection from sex (mostly male to male)is at maybe 3% to 5% of all cases of of HIV.

Meaning:
1. First the odds for getting HIV are still very low
2. Then the odds for co-infection are even lower.

It seems from my reading that the majority of people with both, which in HIV is actually pretty high, is do not to co-infection at the time of HIV infection, but to having either one or the other at first.

For those that will jump on the 3% to 5% and say of course that is me, the odds of converting late from even this remote possibility of coinfection is still low and co-infection means later than 3 months but less than 6.

In other words, the 3 months works! Learn it, know it, live it!
