How possible is it to get HTLV 1 II? Are they considered rare or just as prevelant as HIV?

Originally, HIV was called HTLV-III/LAV (human T-cell lymphotropic virus-type III/lymphadenopathy- associated virus). HTLV was changed to HIV sometime in the early 1980's.

Not exactly, HTLV-III is the old name for HIV (otherwise known as LAV). HTLV-I and II are other viruses, but i don't know about their prevalence or the damage they do. The blood supply is screened for HTLV-I and II as well.
