According to the website of the American Academy of Dermatology "tinea versicolor can be easily recognized by a dermatologist" and is caused by a skin yeast present on nearly everyone's skin. They have a nice write up of this condition at http://www.aad.org/pamphlets/tineav.html.

Please remember that there are NO ARS symptons that are exclusive to HIV. A great deal of people who are infected have no outward signs at all. Some people report ARS symptoms, Rashes, swolen lymph nodes, thrush, night sweats, HOWEVER every one of these symptoms can also be attributed to thousands of other things. A rash can be caused by an alergy to something as simple as changing laundry soap.
Have you had an high risk encounter with someone who is HIV positive? Or have you just had a low risk encounter with someone who's status you don't know? In either event, did you let your doctor know about this encounter or did you just show him the rash and ask what it could be?
I have been responding to posts on this board for quite a while and so far I have not seen anyone on here who has had ARS type symptoms actually test positive. In each case it has always turned out to be something else.
If you feel you have been exposed in one of the 3 currently possible ways, get tested and 30 days. Please do not try to self diagnosis yourself. Only a trained doctor and proper lab tests can do that.
Good Luck
Gregg

at least 50% of people have ARS symptoms and as high as 90% have symptoms.

No one said ARS wasn't real. But if you turn those figures around what you have is at least 10% up to 50% of people show no ARS symptoms. Not everyone has symptoms.

I never said ARS wasn't real, what I said and stand firm to is that there are no symptoms that you can use for self diagnisis that you might possibly have HIV.
There are tons of posts on here from people that have had extremly low risk encounters with people who's HIV status they have no idea (and most often are negative), who read the list of symptoms that are out there and find them in their lives.
Again, I'm not saying that ARS isn't real, HOWEVER with the few people I have talked to that had ARS they said it knocked them on thier ass to the point where they would not have been able to go online and research what was going on with them. They were in the position of having to call friends to take them to the hospital.
I hope this helps to clerify what I was trying to say.
Gregg
