Yeast infections
      #31105 - 04/02/02 05:14 PM

Hi. I had unprotected sex with a man last October. He didn't ejaculate, and we also had oral sex. I tested negative at 6 weeks, and at 3 months. I am going out of my mind with worry waiting to get tested at 6 months, the reason being that I am now getting vaginal yeast infections. I have had no other symptoms I don't think. What is the likelihood of being hiv positive?

I too, have yeast infections that simply wont go away. In my frantic state of my mind I associated this with HIV. After getting tested at 3 months and getting a negative result I couldn't trust that my test was accurate. So I went to my GYN and he prescribed duflican. I had an allergic reaction to it and it made my problem worse. Went to a different GYN. He said bacteria, prescribed metro gel. Didn't work. GYN#3 said dehydration, drink water. So I'm drinking water :)
Sometimes our mind plays tricks on us. I was convinced that I was infected even though my "risk" was never documented in the 20 years of this terrible epidemic. Since almost every state says that a 3 month test is over 99.9% accurate (including New York who has the highest population of HIV infected people living in the metro area) I think it's pretty safe to say that you are not infected.

Look, i'm obsessing just like you. The odds are the most close to zero you can possibly imagine. I decided to test at 6 months anyway for peace of mind but i am trying, from now on, to keep an optimistic outlook about this. You, as i am, are hiv negative. As for your yeast infections, never heard of someone with yeast infections? it isn't quite specific of acute hiv, it isn't specific at all, it's just a yeast infection and will clear out if properly treated with azoles.
Talk to your gyn about your yeast infections and your fear and anxiety about hiv, she will reassure you. hugs

Since you had a 3 month negative the likelyhood of you testing positive are just about nil.

Lately I keep seeing people concerned with recurrent yeast infections in connection with HIV. Yes, women with chronic HIV infection are PRONE to more or harder to clear yeast infections. Notice I said Chronic. That means someone that is no longer asymptomatic in their infection. It does not mean someone that has just been infected. Since the women that have been asking this have all tested negative at 3 months, then the yeast infections don't have anything to do with HIV in the first place.

I get yeast infections if the wrong color car drives by, yet I tested negative 4+ months after my possible exposure. No ejaculation significanly reduces your risk and you tested negative 3 months after. You are negative. Try wearing cotton undies and eat a cup of yougart every day. It made mine go away!
