Would antibodies still be found in something that had been infected for over 8 years? I have read that sometimes people stop producing these antibodies after fighting for so long even though they may appear healthy.

People may stop producing antibodies in the stages of Advance HIV Disease, however they will look anything but healthy and the health problems a person would have by then would lead them to long doctor visits, countless tests and hospital stays. You just can't be that far along and not know it.

I would agree with Jackie, however I have no knowledge of anyone who stops producing them. I think Dr. Bundy would be best able to answer this one if he's around.
And even if after 8 years Antibody's were no longer being produced a test would show them. It's not like they stop being produced and instantly they are gone from your system.
I guess I have to ask what the point is to your question. I'm curious if you think that you have been positive for 8 years and now when you test you got a negative result and you are not trusting it.
Let me know.
Gregg

What you are talking about is seroreversion (going from antibody positive to negative), and it has happened in a few rare cases. Jackie's idea is right, but it does not happen in advanced HIV disease, it happens VERY late in advanced AIDS when the immune system is literally not functioning at all. And yes, you would know if that were the case!

Well, guess what - you're wrong. There is a clear distinction between what is defined as "advanced HIV disease" and AIDS. AIDS is caused by HIV, but in order for an individual to be clinically diagnosed as having AIDS, there immune system has to be extremely dysfunctional (i.e. CD4<200 or OIs). Stick to what you know please, for the sake of all readers.
