Relieving info

A post by Joko-j on 9-15-01
This is just a reminder to worried folks in the window period. Remember, HIV is a rather difficult virus to catch. Most of all HIV infections in the U.S. have occurred from IV drug users sharing infected needles, receptive anal intercourse, or blood transfusions (although the % of infection for blood transfusions has decreased dramatically through testing the blood supply). Now, are there infections outside of these three categories? The answer is "yes", but most of these infections occur in a partner of one of the above categories. And still, there are those others who have been unlucky enough to become infected via vaginal intercourse (receptive and insertive partners). And, when it comes to oral sex, the odds are VERY low (and practically zero if you've received oral sex). The exception in any of these cases is probably when a partner comes into contact with a lot of infected blood. I could go on and on, but my point is that the odds of becoming infected from a one time encounter from a partner of unkown status are EXTREMELY low. And, if the act was protected, the odds are basically zero. Does this mean not to test for HIV? No, I think it's a good idea to test for peace of mind, to be on the safe side, etc. But, at least try to remember while you're sitting in total fear waiting for those results, that you're chances of becoming infected from one of these one time episodes is extremely low. And, when you get your negative result, it's not because you're very lucky, but because you're risk was extremely LOW. Most people who have had MAJOR exposures do not come to this site - they are either going to the doctor and getting tested, or back out there in denial. I write this to bring you peace of mind. The fact is, theat the fear and hell you're experiencing is very real - I have been there, and it has done a "number" on me. But, while I was in the fear, I had the opportunity to speak with some of the most knowledgeable HIV doctors in the field. Although I saw the confidence in the faces of these doctors about my being negative (and I had unprotected insertive sex with someone who was positive), I was convinced (because of my symptoms) that I was the exception ..... but I wasn't. My tests were negative. So, breathe deep my friends, and try to stand tall when you get your results ..... they will be negative! And, believe me, when you begin putting that stressed-out body of yours under the microscope, you're going to notice every symptom in the book! God bless you all .... and remember ..... the facts are that HIV is a tough virus to catch! Take care and best of luck

well about 4 weeks ago, I had sex with an escort. Both Oral and vaginal sex were protected. She used lubes too..cant say if it was oil or water based lubes. Anyways after I came I laid on the couch for about a minute and then went to the restroom to remove the condom. But since it was my first time using a condom, I pulled it using my thumb and index finger. What sux is that after having pulled it..i might have touched the glans or the urethra of my penis. Thats whats freakin me out..Plus I have had sore throat and swellin in the armpits and groin region and a general feelin of malaise.

Your post was great and I'm sure that it will make people that come here feel better. It is pure hell that a person puts themselves through. I know I have been putting myself mental torment and don't even know the status of the person that I was with. And of course there are the SYMPTOMS, it can be scarey as hell. I go in a week to get my three month test and I did test negative at 7 weeks, which is a pretty good sign. It is nice to have support of other people going through the same hell, and that is what this place is for. Thanks again for your post!

I dont think that is very risky. I dont think the virus could have survived through all that exposure to the air, and if it did it probablly would have been too little to matter. Im no expert just giving you info ive heard from others. Good luck and God bless you!!!
