Guys, I've heard "aphthous ulcers" and other mouth ulcers are common in HIV. Are they painful? Is it possible to have some without noticing them? Are they easy to feel in the mouth? What do they feel like?

1) What is it like?
2) Does it tend to be painful/easy to feel?
3) How long do they normally take to disappear?
4) How common are they in HIV- people?
5) Thanks!

Aphthous Ulcers (canker sores) are VERY painful. Everytime you eat or drink it will sting. Yes you will feel them. They can take a week or two to go away. They are VERY common in people period. You don't have to have HIV to get them. Not sure why you are asking if you've never had one or don't suspect you have one.

Hey I get them too,and it adds to my anxiety....a few months ago I received oral sex (this was my first sexual experience) from a guy who had a tounge piercing and since then I have been terrified- now that I have a terrific boyfriend, and we DID have sex, I am terrified that every little thing that goes wrong with my body is a symptom. I had mono (my boyfriend got it shortly after) and convinced myself that this was ARS.....any suggestions, or knowledge from any of you guys who have HIV? thanks!
