ARS-PCR - Dr Gallant
      #29194 - 03/02/02 09:29 PM

Q: Dear Doctor:

I had a possible HIV exposure and two weeks later had flu like symptoms. My doctor suggested Viral load test by PCR after three weeks of exposure. The result was < 25 copies/ml using the ultra-sensitive test.

Does it mean that I was not infected? Do I still have to wait for further tests.

Please do reply since I do not know how to interpret the results and my doctor feels that I'm not infected.

Thanks for your support

A: If you had a negative viral load test during a flu-like illness, it definitely means that your flu-like illness was not due to HIV infection, and it's pretty strong evidence that you're not infected at all
