Ok...about 3 1/2 weeks ago, I burnt my tongue. A week after that, I was eating chocolate, and noticed a pink mark on my tongue. Its been two more weeks, and I'm getting scared. My low risk experience was about a year and a half ago. Anyways, these are my cuurent symptoms: The mark is pink colored. It is on the top of my tongue, but off to the left, and close to the tip (about 1/3 up). It is irregular shaped (like a C). It is about 1/2" big. It looks like the keratin tips (the light white coating on the tongue that everyone has)is gone from this small area. Also, it looks like VERY SLOWLY the white keratin stuff is coming back on various parts of the mark. I'm petrified that it is erythematous candidiasis...HELP! If it was, would it go away on its own?

OK, I have to ask, WHY would you even consider or be thinking about a low risk experience that took place a year and half ago when you just burned your tounge.
Guess what.. It sounds like your tounge has been injured and is probably in the process of healing. As for your thought that it might be erythematous candidiasis, WHY? Have you had your tounge anywhere that you might have picked up a yeast infection?
Have another piece of Chocolate and RELAX and let your tounge heal.

Thanks for the post, but anxiety isn't easily controlled. All I'm asking is would it take three to four weeks for a mark from a burnt tongue to disappear? And erythematous candidiasis can appear without your tongue "being where there is a yeast infection." It's a first sign of hiv progression.

Depending on the burn yes, it could take a few weeks for the tounge to heal.
As for erythematous candidiasis being an early sign of HIV progression. AGAIN, you said that your possible exposure was a year and a half ago. Do you think it would have taken you that long to show the first signs of HIV? Additionally, the correct statement is that Thrush CAN by one of the possible signs of HIV infection, but it's by no way anything that you can depend on and there are also many other health concerns that can use the same type of symptom.
If you are basing your anxiety on something that happened 18 months ago then it's possible that you have some other issues that perhaps a counselor might be able to help you with.

You have a burn on your tongue. Give it time to heel and don't keep touching it and scraping your tongue against your teeth to feel it; that will only slow the healing process. If the problem continues, see your doctor. It might be a minor case of geographic tongue (which is NOT a sign of HIV) if it does not heal on its own in another week or so, but given the fact that you burned your tongue at the same time that this problem appeared, I would attribute it to that (99%). You may want to seek counseling if you feel that you have an anxiety problem.

Dr. Bundy,
Thanks for the response. I appreciate you being understanding and not being rough and judgmental. It is nice to know that some people on these boards can give answers without being sarcastic or rude when dealing with the scared. Thanks again.

I stopped looking at my tongue for the last two days. Just to see, I looked again this morning, and it defnitely seems to be fading. My worries have ended finally!
