SYMPTOMS
      #28987 - 02/27/02 08:17 PM

Would purpura marks on the bottom of both feet and on bottom part of hands, mouth sores on both sides of the cheeks in mouth, loss of weight within the year and a half, white garbage on tongue, floaters in right eye, stiff neck at times, unable to gain weight like I used to. What to do with non-reactive testing after the six month time. Is it AIDS or am I a genetic freak that can't make antibodies?

It is not AIDS. Your illness is something else. See a doctor.

If you bruise easily, hence purple marks, then you should consider other tests. Bruising can be caused by many things: anemia eg. It looks like you have something else other than HIV. Please see a doctor. Forget testing for HIV further.

1) Purpura marks - u sure that's what they are? Sometimes people get "red spots" on the hands and feet, which is normal. If they are purpura marks (which are quite dark and do not blanch when pressure is applied), well, see your doctor. Anemia could be a reason, as has been pointed out, and a lot more! (Not HIV.)

2) Mouth sores on both sides of the cheeks - check whether they are on the "biting line" - there is a mark on the inside of the cheeks where the teeth meet. If they are there, they are "bite marks", which are very common, and very innocent, although a bit annoying.

3) Loss of weight - just happens. Hormones may play a part here, age, as well as nutrition - anything!

4) White garbage - normal and common. But check your liver just in case, and consider your choice of food.

5) Floaters are very common. They tend to increase sometimes - nothing you can do about them. Just accept that they are there. Out of 20 people that I have asked, 20 see floaters, 15 see s h i t l o a d s of floaters. (This doesn't calm me down, but well, these are the facts.) From what I've been told, here and at Charing Cross, if floaters are really HIV-related, they occur at the latest stages of the disease, when testing is unnecessary, really.

6) I think everyone gets it at times.

7) Happens! If you really want to gain weight, I'd advise you to eat your breakfasts, lunches and dinners at McDonald's. But then don't be surprised if your tongue looks ugly with lots of garbage on it...

8) Finally, non-reactive testing after six months means that you don't have HIV or AIDS. Congratulations. It's a minor point, really... Or was this what you are worried about?!

9) As to whether you are a genetic freak, it is best to ask a specialist. First, try to answer the following questions:
- How many eyes do you have?
- How many ears do you have?
- How many arms do you have?
- How many legs do you have?
- Is your name Eva 8 (or 1, 2, 3, ... 12)?
If the answers were approximately 2, 2, 2, 2 (but not greater than 5), and No, injuries and disability don't count, than you are probably alright. I was going to ask about some other things, but I don't know your gender.

10) If you couldn't make antibodies, this post would not appear on this forum...

Sorry, this was posted by me. I have seen a shrink today, as well as an HIV specialist (about my symptoms), and I think it helps a bit. I still see LOADS of floaters and itch a bit, although a lot less... and still worried.

if you have a "rash" (red dots) on the bottom of your feet and the palms of your hands, get tested for syphillis, as this is a common problem with it. it is curable though, so don't worry if you have it, just get it checked out soon and let us know!!
