Can Antibiotics mask ARS related Symptoms?
      #276594 - 06/09/14 04:40 AM

I've been panicking all week thinking I'm Hiv+ and stressing out over everything, a moderator brought me back down to earth last night and a feel a bit better in myself, my question is.

Can antibiotics like paracetamol and ibuprofen bring down the symptoms of an ARS related fever? Then the fever return when the antibiotics wear off? Or would they have no effect at all and the fever would still be felt?

It's hard to interpret your question. ARS is the body's initial reaction to the HIV infection, where, like any viral infection (e.g. FLU) the symptoms will come and go on their own in a matter of days. Antibiotics act against bacterial infections only, so they will have no effect on masking/preventing/treating a viral infection. If one takes medications that act against the symptoms of an infection (fever, congestion, aching, etc) then one would likely experience decreased symptoms, but the viral infection will still be there.
