Ars symptoms after PEP - maximum timescale
      #276171 - 05/08/14 03:31 PM

Hi all
I had a condom break with a CSW in early Feb and was put on PEP 24 hours later. I completed the course.
Since finishing PEP i have tested negative out to 9 weeks post PEP with DUO tests.
However 8 and a half weeks post PEP i came down with a very sore throat and painful lymph nodes in my neck and armpits. Still have these symptoms nearly a week later.
Does anyone think this could be delayed ARS or would it be pretty much unheard of for ARS to occur at this stage 12 weeks from exposure and 8 weeks after PEP (i am aware some people don't get ARS and the symptoms could very well be something else but I was wondering on maximum timescale for ARS to happen after PEP)
Thanks!

Taking prep has put your system through some changes which may of made your body react. By the time you read this you may find those symptons already resolving. In other words , don't sweat it.

Thanks for the reply riverprincess.

Hopefully that's all it is. To be honest I haven't felt myself for several months now but put that down to anxiety and stress. However, I've not felt any symptoms as acute as these. As has been said many times before, symptoms are no guide necessarily, but when you are going through the anxious wait to 3 months, anything that helps mentally (such as perhaps being able to rule out ARS after a certain timescale) is a real bonus.

I can't find much info on seroconverting after PEP - any one on here know of people doing so and when they tested positive / suffered symptoms?

Thanks for the reply crabman.

I think rationally you are probably right; it's just amazing what irrational tricks the mind can play on you - symptoms you probably wouldn't think about for 2 minutes become the centre of your attention for days.

I'm dealing with all this on my own so it's good to have some support from others.

Thanks again.
