5th week test negative...time and tests
      #275413 - 02/13/14 09:01 AM

So as I live and learn on this site. I'm still going through the anxiety of the wait. My girl and I have now been experiencing loud stomach noises and she has gone through the full ride of symptoms (the ones that mean nothing but are on every HIV info site). I've been able to find ways to talk myself out of panic.

Now after my first test since potential exposure and seeing all these symptoms happen to not only me but my girl. I'm convinced symptoms can vary and this is why this board say there unreliable. BUT its hard to believe that after all this time and all these related symptoms that a doctor cant really see this thing coming. GET TESTED and thats the only way. I hear that and am doing it, but for the stressed , anxious and depressed on the board is there no logical conclusions that can be drawn based on the things happening in your body . Granted Anxiety can do some things and there are so many other illnesses. Growling stomach and waking up with a new dry bump this morning and this weight loss is really the torture. When i tested the nurse asked me my 1 to 10 raring on my exposure I said 3 she said she would rate me lower ........ I'm truly not calling this down on myself. Are there no other tests that can give you a conclusive answer in a shorter time. The clinics do the basics is there anything ??

What kind of test was it? A 4th generation test, or DUO test is pretty darn conclusive 4-6 weeks. Most doctors I have talked to say it's 99% correct after 6 weeks. But the CDC and the FDA are mandated to say 3 months. If you don't know, then ask what kind of test you took. I am taking a 4th generation test this coming Monday. It will have been 31 days since my incident. And believe me, I have felt the gauntlet of symptoms. Basically everything besides, fever, sore throat, and I'm not sure about the rash.

I'm just hoping it's all in my mind. I am so withdrawn in my head, it's difficult to think it's anything else besides HIV... But guess what? No matter what the result come Monday, I'm going to know regardless.

I took a 4th Generation test after 31 days and the results were negative. I am confident I do not have HIV-1. But my risk was with an African CSW from Nigeria. So HIV-2 for me has not been ruled out yet. And will not definitively be ruled out until 8 weeks. Which is like 11 days away for me.
