To horrible person from Richard
      #27537 - 01/29/02 02:30 AM

I am not sure whether this will relax you little bit, but I went today to see the HIV specialist in one of the best known Hospitals in Australia.

His interpretation of window period is, that all this current data are old, the experts here know that new generation Elisa would pick up the HIV within six weeks, but they agreed to double it just in case.

He also mentioned that 7 weeks PCR is as good as 13 weeks Elisa. And he has assured me with my tests so far that I am 99.9% OK. And that my 7 weeks Elisa, and 7 weeks PCR should definitely pick up the infection if it was there. He has also examined mi phisicaly and said that my glands are ok. even I feel them painfull, and they should be almost like a golf ball if this was a recent infection.

Well, that was the story, but guess what - I am going for another test - and can't beleive this. This would be just 10 weeks one, so it will be another 3 weeks to wait.

The bottom line is that Internet information is not going to help you, when talking in person with specialist who has great experience in the field didn't help me.

Richard

Richard, Thanks for this. I've made up my mind. Today is going to be my line in the sand. I'm going to be tested today and if this is negative (11 weeks)...I'm going to stop obsessing. I'm driving myself crazy. I would probably be much better off except in the past 2 weeks I've had this combination of constipation/diarreah and now I have a canker sore. I've gotten canker sores all my life but right now, it's a sign to me that something isn't right.

It may be illogical as I haven't heard much talk about canker sores as a symptom of ARS and more than likely that and my GI issues are a result of the extreme stress I'm experiencing right now. I've never had any of the tell tale signs like fever, rash, swolen glands, etc. I know the fact that I haven't had symptoms doesn't mean anything but the "symptoms" I'm experiencing now are very real and very scary to me.

You're right, based on the numbers your specialist gave you and based on all I have read by specialists (hopkins, the body, et al.) I should be fine.

So, you should have your ELISA test results in 24 hours, right? Let me (us) know what happens.

my mom is an AIDS specialist and I asked her about window period (but I didn't tell about my situation LOL)

she told me ELISA gives accurate result in 6 weeks but there are exceptions and just think If a guy have sex with many people while thinking he's negative..

HIV is a serious virus and doctors have to be cautious about exceptions..

but if you test neg. at 6 weeks. then you're ™ neg.
