Inconclusive Elisa, WB Positive. Subsequent tests negative
      #274135 - 10/02/13 08:20 PM

If anyone can help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. I went in for a routine STI test. HIV came back inconclusive for elisa and positive for western blot. Should a repeat Elisa have been done? Because I've taken several rapid tests, including a blood test at a clinic and they've all came back negative. I'm outside of the three month window and I don't know what to do. My doctor apparently reported me to the state health department as HIV positive and I'm not sure if she made the right call in ordering the WB.

I forgot to add that after getting my positive WB, I took another test at the county health depaetment. I was too scared to get the results. My worker told me that test came back negative. So in a couple of weeks she wants me to retest with the county and if negative, my case will be closed with them!! So any positive thoughts and prayers would be much appreciated

WB is performed to confirm HIV infection. Since you had an intermediate Elisa your Dr. was right asking for a WB. Unfortunately, since it was positive, it means you're infected. I am very sorry about that.

When infection is confirmed by a WB, you normally are sent with an infectious diseases specialist, who will run another tests (viral load, CD4 counts, etc. to see where you are).

I suggest you to make further questions in this part of the board:

I know its been a while but I have interesting news I just got mt fourth antibody retest back and my labs from ID. All non reactive and undetectable. The WB was indeed a false positive. Not that anyone is gonna read this

Thank you. I feel so blessed but at the same time i think I havw survivor's guilt bcuz I know that my situation is rare. However, I looked back at my original lab work and the dates preceded the date I saw the doctor so there was definitely a mess up on their end. I think. I'll use this "2nd chance" to get more involved in advocacy, prevention, treatment, and education
