If you get a positive test, how far back should you go partner wise to maybe narrow down who may have infected you, or to inform of your status so they could be tested..I know the virus can be symptom free for years, but whats an average time frame

I was informed there is no specific "going back" unless of course you were lucky like me and had only a couple semi-committed relationships over the last decade. If you can recall sexual partners or who you shared needles with, tell them to get tested, time to be responsible and not look to point fingers. Try to go back, as far back, as you can remember people doing those activites with you and help look after them!
To be able to pinpoint "who" gave it to you is irrelivent, you have it now and you have to look after it responsibly. There is a good chance if you have had numberous sexual partners, maybe the one who gave it to you doesn't know themselves, avoids testing or is one of those "oh it can't happen to me" people.
Doctors like to throw that ten year mark out and around, but there really isn't an average time frame since HIV, like all things, effects each person differently depending on how we care for our bodies physically, any other "conditions" you may have ... so many factors.
If you now have it, just learn to be responsible for it yourself now and look forward, the past is the past, and once your a keeper of the HIV ... it's up to you to care for it!

anotherday ... in paradise!
daily ponder ... be the reason someone smiles today!
