testing window
      #271139 - 03/14/13 04:51 PM

Hello everyone i have a question. How accurate is a 6 week Oraquick Neg test and a 7 week Blood test Neg. I have read in many areas that a 6 week window neg is un likley to change and even more so when you have a 7 week Elisa blood test is even more unlikley to chage not wo worry anymore. Are these good signs? Exposure was unknown due to the fact that i was drinking that night, Unsure weather anything happened. I am a healthy adult with no know health issues. I was also told that a 3rd generation (which is what i took) would have picked up the virus about week 4. can anyone help me

A 7th week negative result is highly unlike to change. It can happen, but is VERY rare with nowdays high sensitive tests.

All the best.

It is, 3rd or 4th in MA is conclusive. 8 weeks in France and much of Europe I believe. By 6 weeks close to 99% of the people that are infected will test positive on an antibody test. The window probably could get moved down to something less than 3 months, but it is what it is....

Test one more time at 3 months, if you want, but don't expect it to come back as positive after a 7 week negative.

Thanks all. I will learn alot from this. Mass test is a 3rd generation test. Testing for both antibodies in hiv. I feel that i no long er need to get tested becasue i have an unknow risk. Thanks for all the work you guys do here. I am highly educated in hiv except for the window period, The average time to anitbody poz is at 25-30 days in a healthy guy it would take longer if you have a comprised immue system from Transplat and Chemo to mane a few, This just shows me that i need to get more involved in the community (HIV) with Vol with the local Aids crisis taskforce in durham Nc. Thnaks all!!
