Made out with a girl a few times when I had canker sores. Called a testing center/hotline to check my risk. They said...
"there have been a 'few' reported cases of HIV transmission because they were specific circumstances e.g. known HIV partner and blood involved. if one has canker sores, this can be considered leading to open mucous membranes and be a risk."
What??? This goes against everything I thought was "safe". This testing center has scared me. Now my heart is racing and I cannot calm down. What are your thoughts?

Every educator told me that either both has canker sores with blood present or one has bleeding gums and another has canker sores. Saliva is has low concentrations of HIV and most proteins inhibit them. So unless her gums were bleeding, its very unlikely. That's what I've been told.

Oh no...that is what i Was worried about. I mean, how does one know if there is blood present? Now I am freaked...
Ok - so there is a risk...hotline was right....
Why would so many websites say no risk even if blood present?

Because the risk is so miniscule that it's almost nonexistent. Like you would have to come into contact with a lot. Not just like a drop or two here. Like full fledge bleeding. And they say a "few" like two or three. They say the same thing about oral sex. Out of all the case studies I've read, I've never heard anyone getting it through kissing. And only one case study out of like a hundred that I read said that one out of the 198 couples that knew that they had HIV got it from oral sex. But later turned out to be from an earlier relationship. So exe that was nullified. So there's a theoretical risk, but there's really no risk.

This is all way confusing. My friends make out with people all the time and never have a worry. I make out with someone a few times and I am freaked.
Thanks for the info...anyone else have any input?
