ARS Symptoms 12 months ago HIV + ex GF
      #269509 - 12/08/12 07:59 AM

Regarding my X from the get go I knew she had HIV I always wore condoms for vaginal sex. There were instances when I had a cold sore(very small and not open) and I performed oral sex on her or cuts on my fingers early on, I wasn't overly worried even having sex when she was on her peroid(near the end anyways)

Anyways within a month of us dating I got very sick. Fever, night sweats, extreme fatigue, horrible diarrhea, muscle aches like I've never had before, no runny nose or symptoms like that. I even had a rash which my ex said looked just like her ARS rash, except hers was more blue while mine was more purplish red.

These symptoms lasted between 3-4 weeks and then things slowly got better except for the horrible diarrhea persisted.

I n the spring saw a GI doctor and got ended up with a colonoscopy. Afterwards my doctor diagnosed me with ulcerative colitis. She said it looked more like something infectious but I had been sick so long with my stomach that largely ruled that out for her.

In Jan I ended up getting PEP as there was a time when the condom wasn't on when I pulled out even though im 99% sure it was on until the very end when I pulled out. I developed peripheral neuropathy a couple weeks into PEP I've had these symptoms before to some degree it got especially bad just before bed.

Testing wise,I was tested in Early December maybe a week after my symptoms, a couple days before the PEP in Mid-late Jan, March, June and again in August all came back negative on a 4th generation HIV test.

In the past few months I've had a recurring Pilonidal cyst(on the tailbone) I've had to deal with on top of my Ulcerative Colitis. I also have Exfoltiive cheilitis which is basically psoriasis of the lips, mine isn't as horrible as some people but it's still quite bad especially if I'm not using this perscription ointment.

I've read reports where people who have acute HIV infection also develop an autoimmune condition at the same time.

Some other studies I've read report that people with psorasis and ulcerative colitis have the HLA b27 and/or HLA b57 allele with much more frequency then the general population. These two alleles are associated with HIV control when infected(long term non progressers or elite controllers sometimes) and also a greater protection of even being infected with HIV when exposed.

I know there are extremely rare cases when someone seroconverts later than 4-12 weeks or even 6 months but in these cases the invidual almost always has a exceptionally good immune response to HIV or an exceptionally bad one.

Partially what worries me is how hearltess my ex turned out to be. She told me she loved me(when I had not proclaimed the same to her) within 2 months then a few short months later she had no empathy and became very cold.

I haven't been with anyone since we broke up. I know I need to get tested just to be safe before. It just seems like such an odd coincidence my ARS type symptoms, when my EX certainly has HIV then the persisting diarrhea...

I used to lift weights quite reilgiously but ever since my stomach has been so horrible and around my ARS symptoms 12 I lost all motivation. I know if you're not getting the nutrients it's a huge uphill battle for results, or to even maintain at my previous size.

So yeah odds are extremely in favor of me not having HIV but sometimes with my stomach being so bad it reminds me of that ARS type illness I had and how it could still possibly be HIV.

if I read correctly your possible exposure was in Jan 2012 and you had your last neg test in August, that's over 8 months post exposure.

Seronegative HIV infection is extremely rare with modern testing, and the handful of cases I have came across have a very bad prognosis (i.e. you develop AIDS very fast). It seems you're not in the case, and after all, you probably had no risk in the first place.

All the best.

The condom slip off was in Jan 2012 however we continued our relationship until mid-late August 2012.

There are instances where the person with seronegative HIV infection is an elite controller. Their CD8 cells are so good at killing HIV someone can have an undectable(or extremely low) viral load in the absense of anti-retrovirals. this results in the body producing less antibodies. There's one case study that reported this from 2010 the individual didn't test positive until 6+ months.

Around that acute infection I had 12 months ago I also experienced pain and some weird feelings in general in my neck lymph node area.

4 years ago I had more health issues(surprise surprise) and I had lots of tests done. My one antibody test IgM had a level below the reference range. IgM is the largest antibody and a deficiency in it alone is counterintuitive due to the fact that IgM is the precursor to the other antibodys and it is able to convert into whatever antibody is needed. I also had a slight IGG subclass deficiency.

All these health issues I have are extremely depressing last week there were a couple nights I was up 8-12 times in the night with my stomach being so bad. That was the first week I started experiencing pain in my stomach due to my UC. Even this week I'm up at least 2-3 during my sleep due to my stomach being so bad. let alone how many times once I'm up.

Who knows maybe I got some weird virus or infection that's not HIV that has caused me all these issues in the past 12 months. Like 4 years ago I needed clindmycin/ clarithromycin for a month to get rid of this horrible burning and stinging pain I had in and around my mouth/lips which my one my doctor thought might be lyme disease before I was treated.

I rarely get sick with colds or flus but I've had chronic cold sores in the past(meaning new ones are popping up before the older ones have healed).
Partially what scares me about HIV Is after taking the meds due to a course of PEP I know I could never tolerate the meds. They made my horrible stomach even worse, I got neurological symptoms, my exfolitive cheilitis got quite noticeably worse(as I'm 90% sure its related to my liver) not to mention the extra fatigue I had.

Even with my current situation I imagine a good percentage of people with HIV have less day to day symptoms then I do

So why exactly are you here? You don't seem to have a question. All you seem to be doing is trying to convince us that you are super special and have some form of HIV that can't be detected. A medical anomaly.

You won't find anyone here that will buy into your position, except other worried wells. Personally if I were you, I'd be less interested in trying to convince a bunch of strangers that I have HIV and more worried about why I felt the deep need to convince a bunch of strangers of my status.

Thanks for the judgmental response crabman. You sound bitter because someone you view as a "worried well" and labeled in that way is mentioning all his health issues and you're thinking to yourself he has no right to complain when I really do have HIV and he doesn't.

Not to mention you're totally wrong, I'm not trying to prove I have HIV when I said in my OP "odds are extremely in favor of me not having HIV". I never at all mentioned some rare form of HIV as you said I claimed to have, I was talking about some individuals immunological responses to HIV but apparently you weren't paying attention to details in my posts.

I was sexually intimate with my x after I had last been tested. Even if you use condoms with someone HIV + you're supposed to get tested every 6 months or so.

How about your need to come on here and label someone you don't know at all other then the few paragraphs he wrote on an online forum and berate them for in your opinion "trying to convince strangers of his HIV status and that he's super special".

I don't have to prove anything to you or anyone else but it seems like you have something to prove. Google shadow projection where someone is in denial of there darkside or shadow(analytical psychology) and then they project it(much more prone when in denial) onto someone else then attack it...

LOL. I'm not the on that is obsessing about HIV.

It's been more than 3 months since you and your GF broke up, so what's stopping you from getting a final test and ending all the speculation?

Why label you as a worried well? Because of your need to list your symptoms ad nauseam even when discussion of NON-SPECIFIC symptoms means nothing in terms of determining status.

any sexually active adult should be tested at least once per year, regardless the status of the other person. if you used condoms, and they never broke, you were protected and you're worrying over nothing.

if you had unprotected intercourse in August (which seems you didn't), you can test now with a 4th Generation Elisa to rule out infection. if a 4th generation elisa does not convince you, and you think to be the rare case of taking longer to produce antibodies, then do a PCR RNA as well.
