Please read - from an ex anxious mess
      #268968 - 11/13/12 11:57 PM

Hello, I had a questionable "exposure" 6 weeks ago. Questionable in the regard it wasn't an exposure at all. I worried myself over nothing, relived those moments and brought anxiety on myself.

I am a Doctor, I know the facts of HIV transmission and should've been able to think more logically. However, anxiety often warps this ability.

So my advice for anyone highly anxious over a similarly questionable exposure:

-talk to an expert, go to a GUM clinic or use a sexual health helpline. listen to what people say and believe them.

- find out about hiv transmission and figure out for yourself whther it was a risk

- write things down factually, remove the emotions and stare at things as cold hard fact

- figure out if your feelings of guilt are what are leading you down this road of anxiety. this is more of an immediate health risk than you realise.

- if you have a negative test. accept it is negative

- always use a condom

Just thought I would return with some advice for people who are anxious. I tested negative, after a while i convinced myself I would as I began to look at the situation more critically.

Thanks doc , I surly hope that many will read your post before diagnosing themselves. Yet for some it still won't matter.

Look up to the Heavens for the answers to Lifes questions .

well said.... I solve problems for a living... my job requires me to be super methodical and highly analytic. Yet, when I was potentially exposed, I mulled over and over, checking for symptoms and signs, googling everything possible..... My anxiety was eating me alive... guilt, regrets, etc... through all this, I knew the answer was simple: get tested.

ignorant isn't bliss when it comes to HIV.
