Oral sex risk
      #268370 - 10/20/12 09:33 AM

Hey I know you have probably gotten alot of questions about oral sex, but I just wanted to know if I should be tested, I am an 18yo female. About 4 weeks after the the indecent I got swollen lymph nodes on both sides of my neck and couldnt feel any anywhere else, but now at 10 weeks I noticed that I also have swollen lymph nodes in my groin on both sides as well. I am also experiencing fatigue but that could be from an irregular sleeping pattern and stress from university work. I should probably also add that I did swallow his semen. Any advice would be helpful because I am freaking out since I dont know the guy that well and this is my first time having done something like this...

all i know, most sites say the likelihood is low risk, medhelp says no risk..I am not an expert and have gone through my own anxiety with the fear of hiv. all i can say is test at 12 weeks and again at 24 weeks to ease your mind.

oral sex is considered a low risk activity when comes to HIV. however, low risk is not the same as no risk.

there are things that play in the equation for infection to happen:

- the viral load of the person
- if the person ejaculated in your mouth
- if you have a pool oral hygiene
- if you have bleeding gums
- luck

you can test at 13 weeks for an accurate result. I always suggest to test in a laboratory (classic blood drawn) over self-testing at home.

as this was a single incident, and as we don't know the status of the person, you should be fine. please share your results if you can.

also, don't forget there are easier STIs that can be passed through receptive oral sex:

if you want to avoid all of the above, use condoms next time.

all the best.
