in responce to my trend 28 day test
      #267302 - 09/26/12 10:53 AM

Thanks for all the responces. I spoke with a HIV specialist, She said if anything did happen 90% of hiv infections POZ test results will occur within the first 30 days Average is 25 days for a healthy individial. I have tested at day 12 (Hiv Blood) 15 (Orasure) 20 (Hiv Blood) 28 (Orasure) 30 (Hiv Blood) 35 (Hiv Blood) All Neg I have also read an article for the AIDS community center that testing at 6 weeks will catch 95% of infections, It takes longer for those that battle cancer , Kemo or are other wise comprismed immune system issues thats why the 3 mths comes in to cover the intire Population. When i would go to the AIDS community center they would tell me that 30 days is conclusive in a healthy person such as my self. Any feed back email me. Hugs is this correct information? like i said my exposure was limited but just worried. and parinod, thats why i try not to have sex.

Hi kbuddy77,

I read your post "Common questions/concerns about HIV/AIDS please read" it was very very informative. Thank you for posting it.

I also read this post "Re: in responce to my trend 28 day test".

Can I ask where you were informed that a 6 week test will reveal 95% of infections?

Also, I have tried to look for an official website that has the "Chart with approximate accuracy of HIV antibody testing" posted on it, but I couldn't find one.

I ask because on your first post, it states that a 4 week test will reveal 95% of infections and 6 week tests reveals 99% of infections, but on the second post it says a test at 6 weeks reveals 95%.

Sorry to focus on the technicalities. I'm just curious because I myself have a low risk HIV concern. My last test was at 33-34 days past the exposure with an Elisa test which tested negative. It was 1 or 2 days shy of the 5 week mark. I'm waiting for it to be 6 weeks to get tested again, but am extremely nervous and scared.

Hey guy! I just wanted to let you know where i get my FACTS one the post Questions about HIV/ AIDS was a case study compiled of HIV nurses and Dr and Therpaist In the LA area a couple years back. I also get my information from 3 major sources here in Durham NC. I will list them and give you there commets to me so we dont get confused.

Duke Universty Dr Davis **** Director of ifectious disease professor and AIDS clinical trail director - After several Neg test at 5-6 weeks you will not need and or require hiv testing presuming your healthly 25 days is the Average time for antibodys to form.NO FUTHER TESTING IS REQUIRES

ASSC Of Duhram Aids Alliance for AIDS services: You must wait 30 days to be tested with rapid test if the test is NEG at that time you will not require future testing your neg. Heres there website you may have some like this in your community they offer free rapid testing (trinty unigold) plus the are a great source of information -http://aas-c.org/

Duke Universty Division of Vaccine and Cure developement John Dailey MD PHD. Conclusive testing vielding neg results out to 6 weeks you are NEG, At 4 weeks you neg statud is highly unlikely to change at 6 weeks.

NOW THE Window period!!!! ;
The window period was develpoed by a bunch of guys in suits sitting at a round table in atlanta CDC back in the 80's and it hasnt changed sience except for the fact that 6 mth testing is unwarraanted. A healthy person meabing your not in immune sepression drugs the noral antibody dectable level would be at 25-39 days period. For others who have had transplants, cemo, diabetes,Immune Issues ex it MAY take 3 mths. They inlisted the 3 mth policy worldwide to cover the INTIRE population. Note if you feel into to the cat if 2-3 mths time frame for detectable antibodies you WOULD be in a hospital or spend alot of time there.

Im a self avocate for the prevention and education of hiv / aids in the durham area major area of focus Internet sites like adam4adam.com and other places. If you want to communicate heres my emil kbuddy77@yahoo.com or we can communicate here Have a blessed day and be SAFE!

A person who has contracted HIV may show up positive as early as two weeks after the time they were infected. According to page 11 of the Module 6 Training Manual from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the vast majority of those who contract HIV will show up positive between 4—6 weeks after infection.

To obtain a reliable test result, it is recommended that you wait at least six weeks after your last exposure. A tiny number of people may not test positive for three months. These are generally people with pre-existing immune disorders such as chemotherapy patients or recent organ transplant recipients who must take immune system-suppressing drugs. For this reason, many agencies will suggest a uniform three month test to cover everyone.

Testing beyond three months is completely unnecessary.

Here is a chart with approximate accuracy of HIV antibody testing:

Time Accuracy

2 weeks…………………………50%

3 weeks…………………………75%

4 weeks…………………………95%

6 weeks…………………………99%

3 months…………………….100%
