Worried about possible hep b/c delaying HIV window period
      #265831 - 08/23/12 06:43 AM

Hi

I had a possible exposure (unprotected sex with csw) in Thailand in nov 2011.

I tested negative with 3rd gen ELISA at 4,8,10, 13 and 16 weeks.

Also did a ELICA at 8.5 months which was negative.

However, here is the worrying part. I have been experiencing abdominal pain and muscle aches for the past 5 months, been to the doctors several times, had bloods, ct scan, x rays, the lot and they have found nothing.

I am worried that I may have either hep b or hep c. I tested for these as well but only after 7 weeks after exposure which may have been too soon.

Also I am reading that possible co infection with hep c (not sure whether it applies to hep b as well) can delay production of antibodies and testing should be done up to 12 months!! Is this he case. The story regarding that healthcare worker a few years back, was this an isolated incidence.

Please I would be ever do grateful if anyone out there could shed some light on this issue, it's been nearly a year after the incidence and I am still rather worried.

Thanks

Considering how common hepatitis is I think being under the care of doctors for the past five months, they would have picked up on it.
Why don't you pick up the phone and ask your doctor. Seriously.
I never read of a false negative after 8.5momths. But (s)he would know for sure.

Have you even tested for hep C yet? Anyway it doesn't matter because even if you were hep c positive, by this time at 8.5 months you'd already show antibodies for hiv. Your symptoms must be due to something else.
