Couldn't wait to tell you guys about this!
      #264582 - 07/13/12 07:15 PM

Sooooo....I got a pap smear two weeks ago and was scheduled to receive my results yesterday via the telephone. So I call the number and the machine said..."please contact your doctor for your results". So I'm like ok...something is wrong. I left work early to get my results. Get there and the nurse tells me I tested positive for HPV. There are two kinds, the one that causes genital warts and the one that causes cervical cancer. I have the one that causes cervical cancer. So the nurse proceeds with giving me more information about the disease. I cried my eyes out. Anyways, my pap was normal but unfortunately I have HPV. So the nurse asks me if I want to take an HIV test. I said...well I just took one in May. She said well you can take another. And she continued by saying..."You know it can take years before it shows up, like 10 years". So I'm like what do you mean 10 years. She said it depends on your immune system. Some people will show right up and others can take up to 10 years. Im like wait...so you're telling me the window period can be 10 years? I thought it was 3 months! At this point I'm testing her. She said yes. Its different for different people. I said where did you hear that from. She said nursing school. I said what year were you in nursing school. She said 2006. I said and the told you it could take 10 years before you test positive on a test she said yes. I guess she realized I didn't believe her so she googled HIV testing and began to read it. There it said 3 months and possibly 6 in rare cases. She looked stupid. Then she said well here it says 3 months. I was so pissed that she was giving me the wrong information and also pissed that I knew more about the disease than she did. I mean like WTF! If you don't know what the hell you are talking about shut the fuck up. In the beginning she scared me. Im like what...have you seen that happen before. But then I realized what she was remembering from nursing school is when they most likely told her it can take 10 years for symptoms to show. She looked like an idiot at the end and I was so pissed. I had forgotten about my whole situation and was upset about that. I just walked out. But anyways, I'm afraid to test again now. Now that I tested positive for HPV. I was so shook up by that result I don't want to hear anymore bad news!!!!

She also told you wrong about hpv. There are 40 types and just because you have it doesn't mean you will get cancer. It increases your chances yes but doesn't guarantee it. Hpv is usually cleared up by your immune system within 2 yrs and you can become reinfected. More than half of all sexually active adults have had it at some point and there are an estimated 20 million currently infected in the US right now. Is it anything to get worked up about. NO. Is it something to cry about? Absolutely not.

Yeah. She did tell me that 1 out of 3 people have it and at some point most of all people sexually active will contract the virus. But it was just a negative result and I have already become a hypochondriac about my health so I was really sad.

well Hiv can never take 10 years to show up..!
Reason is that the virus kills the CD4 and if someones body does not produce antibodies the virus will kill all CD4 and a person will get any OI's within a year or so and will die eventually so yes the window period is most likely 13 weeks max for majority of the people..!
because if someone's body does not produce antibodies one will die very soon..!
But i don't know what disgusting disease i have got i have lost my stamina badly .. neuropathy , tonsil got infected , fungal infection ..!
It sucks..! i wish i could go back in past and change everything.!

She needs to be fired and reported to the nursing board for given out false and misleading information to patients. Wow is all I can say.
