48 days after exposure...
      #263290 - 05/27/12 05:53 PM

I got tested 48 days after being exposed to hiv. My partner had a blood transfusion and contracted the hiv virus. I had been tested just at the beginning of october and my exposer was December 21. Was only once and I got tested february 7 which was 48 days after my exposure.. came out negative. Haven't had any symptoms and I just got tested again may 23. Is there a chance my test is still negative?

Very unlikely. But if it makes you feel more confident be checked in 6 months. Have you also been tested for Hep C? That has become more of a problem than HIV.

Very unlikely that I will be negative or that I will end up being positive? Never been tested for hep c that I can think of. He did ejaculate in me which I forgot to mention but I didn't leave it in. I definitely will be getting tested again here in about another month if this comes back negative (praying). Thank you for tour feedback it means a lot. I keep having visions in my head its gonna come back positive but im trying my hardest not to think that way.

Very unlikely you'll be negative. But if it makes you feel better re-test after 6 months , then a final time at the 1year mark .

Dang. I read a lot of places say 6-8 weeks is when most people test positive for it and I was just a day short of 7 weeks. I guess I was hoping someone would say I have a good chance of my coming back still negative. I guess only time will tell I have a couple more days before I find out.

Ok, I am newer here, but have read more than most. I think if you tested negative at 48 days post exposure, your chances of being negative are good.

Average person shows postive at 21 days.
Thus, you are over double that.
Sure, there is the 1 in a 100,000 people that don't show positive till 6 months, but, I think a 48 day test should be very very conclusive.

(Wish I had that)

We tell folks to test longer to rule out any possibilities. Not because of thinking your possibly pos. It helps to erase any doubt. have you been tested for Hep C also? Again just a precautionary measure, thats all.

I'm sorry river princess but you are wrong. Three months is all anyone needs to test out to for any exposure as long as they do not have an autoimmune issue before hand such as being on chemotherapy for cancer. After that you are just wasting time and funds. A test after six weeks is very accurate as to what your three month test will show. Any testing after that is nothing but fueling unnecessary worry.

That said people should test three months after their last exposure and get tested yearly after that just as a routine checkup. There is absolutely no need to test 6 months to a year out anymore. Please stop spreading misinformation and leading these people on in delusions.

Thanks for all the advice! Im feeling a lot better about it after reading from at least 6 doctors thats after about 6-8you weeks tests are most of the time conclusive and I was just a day short of 7 and I've always had a pretty good immune system so im praying for a negative result.

Well I got my results and I am negative. Since my exposure was Dec 21 a this would make it just under 6 months. Thanks again for the advice and info!
